Master of Arts in Communication

Degree Plan

The Master of Arts in Communication offers practical experience and theoretical knowledge for students interested in acquiring expertise in marketing, public relations, advertising, mass media, digital media, law, and education. The communication discipline addresses skills applicable to almost any private sector, government, or nonprofit industry. Students with an MA in communication from University of the Southwest (USW) are accomplished and proficient writers, speakers, and researchers whose broad understanding of the discipline is complemented by unmatched attention to detail.

USW is unique in offering an extremely flexible program with small classes and one-on-one attention customized to both student and employer needs. The interests and career goals of students are targeted in a thesis utilizing qualitative or quantitative research. USW professors have many years of practical experience enhanced through scholarly work in communication-related fields. Specialty areas include social media, critical thinking, journalism, intercultural communication, women’s studies, African American studies, and mass media. Students will find the program is efficient and responsive to individual needs.
